1874 Hidden Bar
Tucked behind a 1960s-style grocery storefront in Penang, 1874 is a concealed bar introducing a space combining nostalgic references with industrial elements. Designed within a century-old shophouse, the project reinterprets materials using reclaimed scaffolding planks, vintage furniture, and exposed brick. The entrance is a concealed refrigerator door, reinforcing transition. Inside, dim lighting, oxidized steel, and retro displays establish a restrained atmosphere. The design presents a sequence of spatial experiences through material contrast, historical references, and adaptive reuse.
