Nagomi Welfare Facilities

Architecture

Nagomi is a welfare facility designed for the employees of a factory in the suburbs of Miyagi prefecture, Japan. The name Nagomi means to ease the mind in Japanese. The two-floor building covers 1691 square meters and holds a cafeteria, a fitness center, a gallery, relaxation areas and indoor and outdoor event spaces. A curved form and a sloping roof shelter the approach from winter wind and snow. Trussed wings give the cafeteria a wide open space, where the lines of the wooden ceiling are set in a random pattern to create a light and warm interior.
